Consultant Opportunity:

We are excited to announce an opportunity to be trained while embodying the role of a co-facilitator supporting a Community of Practice for 12 non-clinical* Supervisors. All members of the cohort will be working within BSAS-funded programs at the same level of care as the co-facilitator.

What is a Community of Practice?

A Community of Practice offers a model for professional development and peer support, enabling supervisors to collaborate on solving workforce challenges and to exchange resources, with opportunities to discuss integraration of system change models, such as Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycles. BSAS will invite groups of 12 supervisors - two from each BSAS region - to join eight weekly virtual meetings for one hour, with the possibility of continuing with monthly follow up sessions.

The Supervisor Community of Practice groups will be overseen and co-facilitated by Dr. Margaret Giles, PhD, a former Substance Use and Addictions provider and clinical supervisor and a current a BSAS Workforce Development Consultant as well as Associate Professor and Chair of the graduate Department of Counseling and Psychology at Lesley University.

What are the roles and responsibilities of a Community of Practice Co-Facilitator?

  • Co-facilitators establish topics for the sessions
  • Review the reflection documents from attendees to identify topics for future discussions
  • Co-facilitate the conversations
  • Perform administrative tasks like sending out meeting invites, taking and sharing notes from sessions
  • Facilitators will collaborate with AdCare to collect and analyze evaluation data.

Required qualifications:

  • Experience providing treatment for substance use disorders, mental health disorders, and trauma in a BSAS program
  • Experience providing supervision to program staff
  • Experience facilitating groups
  • Comfort with online meeting venues (e.g. Zoom)
  • Organizational skills including notetaking, meeting planning, and report writing
  • Good written and verbal communication skills,
  • 5 years of experience in the Substance Use/Addictions Workforce, as supervisor or not.
  • Currently providing supervision.
  • Ability to make a time commitment of 3 hours/week (up to 5 hours possibly) in addition to your current role to attend:
    • Weekly prep meeting with Facilitator Lead (30 min – 1 hour) - to be scheduled
    • Weekly session as a co-facilitator (1 hour) to be scheduled
    • Weekly review of reflection documents (1 hour) to be scheduled
    • Pre- and post- series meetings as needed (varies) to be scheduled
    • Not to exceed 12 hours (at $100/hr rate)
    • Be responsive to email/communications and deadlines co-created

Dates / Pay: New cohorts of the Community of Practice will begin once consultant co-facilitators are selected and contracted with AdCare Educational Institute. Each cohort will last only 8 weeks, but new cohorts will continue to meet until June 30, 2025. Time commitment is 3-5 hours per week. The pay is $100 an hour. The work can be done fully remotely.
