Who is involved? / How is the placement made? / What is the timeline?
Students are screened throughout the fall semester before being placed in an internship experience.
Are there any documents needed?
Students should have an appropriate resume and submit it to the ACE Director and have it available when interviewing for a practicum site.

Westfield State University Continuing Education & Graduate Studies 333 Western Avenue Westfield MA 01086 Currently WSU has a satellite location at Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield MA (This program begins in March of each year)

Approximately 25 to 30
How many students do you place into internships in a typical year?
15 to 20
Share any distinctive features of your program.
This is a comprehensive educational program preparing students to enter the addiction counseling field.
What kind of opportunities for training do your students need?
The student needs to have successfully completed the first semester of the ACE program which includes: Use & Abuse of Alcohol and Other Drugs in Society; Counseling the Chemically Dependent Individual; Co-occurring Disorders
Are there any specific times of year that your students need internships?
The majority of internships are completed in the Spring semester beginning in January.
Do your students have other timing requirements, such as particular hours in the day?:
Classes during the spring semester occur on Wednesday evenings.
What are the supervision requirements?
Supervision from WSU includes a Supervision/Ethics Course from January to May on either Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings.
Are there any other specific requirements?
WSU prefers that students if in recovery are in recovery for approximately 2 years and must have at least a GED or High School Diploma.
