Internship placement process

Who is involved? / How is the placement made? / What is the timeline? : 

The potential intern would call or email Jane Burgess the Clinical Director to ask if there are any openings for interns at the North Cottage Program. If there is an open intern position then they would then need to come in for an interview to discuss what their goals are to see if the internship would be a good fit for the person and for the North Cottage Program. If it is a good fit, then the potential intern would need to fill out a CORI request form and a confidentiality document at that time.

Are there any documents needed?: 

A resume is preferred, but not necessary.

What other information do students need?: 

The North Cottage Program cannot always take interns. For this reason the internship spot will get filled up 1 to 2 semesters in advance.

Program description

Level of care: 

The North Cottage Program is a 4 to 6 month residential program for substance use treatment. We are licensed by the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services for the Department of Public Health, Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The North Cottage Program provides treatment to men over the age of 18 who are in the early stages of recovery. For further information about the program, please log onto the website.

Internship program component

What kind of opportunities for training are offered? : 

Co-lead groups Learn how to do treatment plans, counseling notes, group notes. Learn admission process and sit in on face to face interviews Supervision with a Masters level Counselor or Supervisor

Timing of an internship: 

Internships can start any time of the year and go for as long as needed. The days need to be Monday through Friday during the hours from 9:00am to 4:00pm

How many CADC/LADC interns do you take?: 

When there is an internship slot, there is only one for CADC/LADC interns.
