IHR’s Smoke-Free Families Online Training can assist counselors and other staff working with families in a variety of settings to better understand the risks of secondhand smoke (SHS) and thirdhand smoke (THS) exposure, as well as exposure to aerosol from e-cigarettes and other electronic devices.
IHR’s Smoke-Free Families Online Training provides information, tools, and resources for counselors and other staff working with families in a variety of settings. It is based on an in-person training that was provided to clinicians who worked for home visiting programs such as Early Intervention, Healthy Families, and F.O.R. Families and was funded by the Massachusetts Tobacco Cessation and Prevention Program (MTCP).
IHR’s Smoke-Free Families Online Training includes information about the following topics:
- Tobacco Use and Secondhand Smoke Exposure in Massachusetts
- Risks of Secondhand and Thirdhand Smoke and/or Aerosol Exposure
- Nicotine Addiction and Tobacco Treatment
- Stages of Change and Motivational Interviewing
- Addressing Secondhand and Thirdhand Smoke and/or Aerosol with Families
- Resources
The training should take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Slides and handouts are available to download. A certificate of completion will be emailed within 2-3 weeks of completing the quiz and evaluation.
