Workforce Training Fund Program

The Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP) helps address business productivity and competitiveness by providing resources to Massachusetts businesses to fund training for current and newly hired employees. In order to qualify, businesses must pay into the Fund. All for-profit companies automatically pay into the fund. If you are a non-profit, contact Commonwealth Corporation to learn if you qualify (a link to do so automatically should be on the website also). Government agencies are not eligible to apply.

While available to businesses of all sizes, the WTFP focuses on small to medium-sized businesses that would not be able to invest in improving employee skills without the assistance of the Fund.

The target workforce is current and newly hired employees.

There are two Programs (please see the site for details, this is highest level summary):

  1. Express (3 week lead time, up to $30,000/year, depending on organization size from 50% to 100% reimbursement for up to 3000/person/course), select courses from this list: https://commcorp.org/subprogram/wtfp-express-directory/ [you can request new courses be added].
  2. General (90 day  lead time, up to a maximum 2-year, $250,000/year grant with more requirements including dollar for dollar matching, though if English for Speakers of Other Languages is part of the grant, there can be some reduction of the match), and applicant can select their own trainer.
