Event description
Sponsored by BSAS
Yes

Instructors/Facilitators will use Two- Eyed Seeing Approach Vignettes, developed from their work with Native communities in Washington state (WA), as teaching tools for the session. The overall training goals and objectives are to introduce stakeholders to Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) which is “the use of FDA-approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a ‘whole-patient’ approach to the treatment of substance use disorders”1 for those working in Native American communities. The presentation will address lines of tension in substance abuse services between Euro-American treatments and treatments for American Indian/Alaska Natives using an indigenous approach known as “Two-Eyed Seeing.” The objective is to discuss the acceptability of MOUD in Native communities and potentially improve access and adoption of MOUD.
