VIRTUAL: Helping People with Co-Occurring Substance Use & Mental Health Disorders from a Clinical Perspective (584)

Event description
Funded by BSAS
Yes

This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of SUD, MH and Co-Occurring disorders treatment, and the importance of integrated, simultaneous treatment. We will explore the differences in education and treatment perspectives between mental health clinicians and addiction treatment clinicians, and address the difficulties experienced by both in working with SUD, MH and Co-Occurring populations.

Participants will learn how to complete Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder assessments, and how to use and apply ASAM criteria when addressing placement needs for effective treatment outcomes. This workshop will also support participants to improve interviewing skills, enhance rapport-building to better engage clients, develop clients’ skills in taking responsibility for their own recovery, and address counselor’s insecurities related to working with unfamiliar populations. Participants will come away with an understanding of integrated care in Co-Occurring Enhanced, Capable and Integrated treatment milieus
