Trauma-Informed De-Escalation

In this training we will explore difficult encounters with our clients and how best to respond to them. We will review how trauma and crises affect the brain’s arousal system.   We will explore how trauma related triggers may contribute to challenges in developing a safe and therapeutic relationship with those in treatment. We will discuss safe ways to address crises as well as practice strategies to de-escalate difficult encounters.  Participants will learn ways to manage crisis safely while creating opportunities for learning safer coping strategies. 

At the end of this training participant will be able to:  

  1. Describe strategies to prevent and prepare for crises. 
  2. Describe physical and non-physical strategies for managing crises. 
  3. Identify techniques to debrief critical incidents.
