Marijuana, Vaping, and Youth: What’s the Big Deal?

Event description
Sponsored by BSAS
Yes

This training focuses on the impacts of marijuana use, as well as vaping (as it relates to both nicotine and THC) on the physical and mental health of youth and young adults. We will begin with a review of current trends of marijuana use and vaping among youth, then review research to date on marijuana and the teenage brain, perceived benefits, short-term vs. long-term effects of use, and facts about marijuana and addiction/ cannabis use disorder. We will then review the physical and behavioral health impacts of vaping nicotine. The second half of the training will focus on ways to engage youth in understanding their patterns of marijuana use and vaping, their reasons for using THC and/or nicotine, and developing alternatives to marijuana and nicotine use while promoting open, positive communication and healthier life choices. Resources to support youth and young adults struggling with marijuana use, vaping, and/or other substance use will be provided.

This training is aimed towards anyone working with youth and young adults; prior knowledge is not required.
