1. Assessing/Identifying Training Needs

This session will focus on strategies for assessing your staff’s knowledge and skills, identifying development opportunities, and effectively communicating the rationale for the need for knowledge and/or skill development, which will be addressed through training initiatives.
2. Leading Trainings to Develop Staff Skills: Understanding Learning Styles
October 4, 2024

In this session, participants will explore how to best structure in-service staff training. We will briefly review Adult Learning Theory, emphasizing and exploring methods based on cognitive and adult learning theories for use in in-service staff training.
3. Leading Trainings to Develop Staff Skills: Creating Case Studies/ Scenarios

Using case studies and scenarios to explore knowledge and/or skills can be a crucial learning tool. In this session, participants will explore how to develop and use case studies/scenarios in order to deepen specific knowledge areas or practice building specific skills.
4. Leading Trainings to Develop Staff Skills: Using Role-Play

Role-play is one of the most important tools in building skills for staff. Practicing an interaction or potentially difficult conversation can build skills and provide benefits. In this session, participants will explore the many uses of role-play, and practice how to present them to an audience.
5. Putting it all together: Integration into the Workspace
November 1, 2024

In the final session, participants will synthesize the insights gained from the previous sessions. They will learn how to integrate these training strategies into their own work environments, ensuring that staff training is comprehensive, engaging, and aligned with program goals. By combining knowledge of learning styles, case studies, role-play, and the rationale behind skill development, participants will be asked to draft a mock in-service training that supports staff growth and program success.
