We are in a seismic shift in the field of addressing problematic substance use, with the rise of harm reduction and the expansion of definitions and pathways of recovery. With this has come division between the traditional recovery and harm reduction communities, with folks on both sides fighting to uphold their principles, find sustainable funding, and not get co-opted by profiteers and people who don't understand our models and methods. The ones who suffer the most as we fight amongst ourselves are those that are more vulnerable, including women, non-binary and trans folks, other femmes, and people of color.
We must work together to reduce drug-related deaths and harms caused by problematic substance use, and improve the quality of life for our community members who use and used drugs. This session is designed to stimulate conversation and reflection as we explore and find the common ground between harm reduction and recovery movements, principles, and practices. We want to hear from you, the community members both directly impacted and their allies and supporters, on what is most important in supporting women and non-binary people who use/used drugs, and how we can move forward together.
Please join us for this important conversation about the intersection of harm reduction and recovery values, practices and goals, and the impact we can have when we come together. Hosted by recovery author, Caroline Beidler, and facilitated by Storyteller and Advocate, Meghann Perry along with the Executive Director of the National Black Harm Reduction Network, Tracie M. Gardner, this promises to be an hour filled with authentic conversation, truth-telling, and advocacy.
