Training Description:

This training is aimed at Community Partners who engage, at any level, with someone with Substance Use Disorder and who is seeking to better understand the disease and the grueling process of recovery. 

Participants will be introduced to SUD disease model and dispel the myth that drug using is a moral failing. Participants will learn about behaviors of addiction and get an answer to the question of, “why can’t people just stop.” 

This course will introduce common terms heard in the Recovery arena such as Recovery Capital and Pathways of Recovery and Reuse Prevention. Participants will take away a foundational understanding of addiction and an improved understanding of the journey of recovery. 

Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify Substance Use Disorder as a Chronic Disease
  • Recognize common behaviors of SUD and Trauma and how to engage
  • Identify one’s own personal biases and how that biases was founded
  • Develop a foundational understanding of Harm Reduction as it relates to recovery
  • Utilize Recovery Capital and Pathways of Recovery to support someone towards recovery
