On December 15, 2015, NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals announced the opening of the 2nd cohort of the NAADAC Minority Fellowship Program for Addiction Counselors (NMFP-AC) for master’s level students in the last year of a graduate program with an addiction/substance use disorder program or track.

At least 36 students who commit to working with the needs of transition age youth and/or racial and ethnic minorities post-graduation will be provided tuition stipends of up to $20,000 per student, training, and mentorship.

Online applications for the 2016-2017 Academic year will be accepted from December 15, 2015 to March 15, 2016, through NAADAC's website.

The NAADAC Minority Fellowship Program for Addiction Counselors (NMFP-AC)  aims to increase the number of culturally competent Master’s level addiction counselors available to underserved and minority populations, and education, and professional guidance, to students in the final year of an accredited Master’s program in addiction/substance abuse counseling with a demonstrated commitment to working with these groups. The NMFP-AC’s ultimate goal is to reduce health disparities and improve behavioral health care outcomes for racially and diverse populations by addressing current challenges in the addictions profession pertaining to human infrastructure development, cultural misalignment between addiction professionals and the populations they serve, and insufficient training of addiction professionals.

To be eligible, graduate students must:

• Be U.S. Citizens or Legal Permanent Residents

• Be eligible for graduation from an accredited Master's program in addiction/substance use disorder counseling or a counseling program with an addiction/substance use disorder track that meets CACREP or NASAC standards within 12 months of the tuition stipend.

• Agree to attend an online orientation training, complete six required education webinars, and agree to work with an NMFP-AC-provided mentor.

• Commit to providing at least six months post-fellowship addiction/substance use disorder counseling to underserved populations.
