Description:

This training lays the foundation for a common understanding of the breadth and depth of racism and its impact on all aspects of society. Experiencing the History of Racism in the US Timeline in community increases awareness and commitment to racial equity. Activities and exercises address:

 

● Community Agreements for a respectful learning environment

● History of Racism in the US Timeline

● Unpacking our personal histories of race and racism

● Data on the material impact of racism today

● Language for talking about race, ethnicity and racism

● Stereotypes, prejudice & bias

● Intersectionality and the complexity of racial experiences

● Racial health equity

● Cultural humility vs. abusive power dynamics in the workplace

● Looking through the lens of diversity, equity & inclusion

● Racial privilege: using it for good

● Antiracism vs. non-racism

 

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:

 

● Identify at least 4 examples of racism in the history of the United States

● Provide at least 4 examples of how racism impacts people of color today

● Explain the difference between racism, prejudice, implicit bias and stereotypes

● Identify at least 4 questions to ask in order to see through the lens of diversity

● Identify respectful language to use for talking about racial and ethnic social identities

● Define racial health equity and racial health inequities

● Provide at least 4 examples of how racial power imbalances can play out in the workplace

● Provide at least 4 examples of how to demonstrate cultural humility in the workplace

● Identify at least 4 examples of racial privilege

● Identify at least 4 ways to use racial privilege to make positive change
