The Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) is a developmentally-appropriate behavioral treatment for youth and young adults 12 to 24 years old with substance use disorders developed by Chestnut Health Systems. A-CRA seeks to increase the family, social, and educational reinforcers to support recovery. A-CRA includes three types of sessions: youth alone, parents/caregivers alone, and youth and parents/caregivers together. The content of this training will be to describe the theoretical approach, the procedures that are in the manual, provide the opportunity for attendees to practice the procedures, and to provide both supervisors and therapists information about certification in A-CRA. The training will be followed by an opportunity to pursue certification. The certification process will include tape reviews of sessions during which the model is used.
A-CRA is endorsed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) Office of Youth and Young Adult Services (OYYAS), as a preferred outpatient model for adolescent substance use treatment. A-CRA is also the recommended treatment intervention for youth with substance using behaviors who do not meet full diagnostic criteria for substance use disorder.
Funding for this training is provided by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Bureau of Substance Addiction Services.
