Why is Menthol a Social Justice Issue?

Event description
Sponsored by BSAS
No

Menthol is a chemical compound that makes it easier to start smoking and harder to quit. The high prevalence of menthol use among Black, Latinx, and LGBTQ communities is a significant health inequity. These elevated rates are not an accident either. They are the result of decades of targeted advertising to historically marginalized groups. This webinar will go over the past and current debates about menthol and other flavor bans, how the current laws impact our treatment programs in Massachusetts, and how programs and providers can integrate this topic to promote tobacco awareness and recovery among clients.
