SUMMARY: The Intern works as part of the Steppingstone, Inc. team serving individuals with substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health disorders, and housing instability. The internship provides bachelor’s and master’s level students in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling, or related fields with direct, supervised experience in clinical and administrative aspects of treatment and recovery. Interns will gain hands-on experience through observation, client engagement, documentation, and participation in program operations, under the supervision of a licensed clinician or designated supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Position Specific Duties

▪ Participate in client assessment, treatment planning, and delivery of therapeutic interventions under supervision.

▪ Engage with consumers to support individual recovery goals, facilitate groups, and promote positive outcomes.

▪ Observe and assist with family and systems work as part of the treatment process.

▪ Assist program employees with day-to-day operations and service coordination.

▪ Participate in employee meetings, trainings, and case reviews to develop clinical and professional competence.

▪ Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in accordance with agency and regulatory standards.

▪ Learn and apply ethical and professional standards in all aspects of consumer care and team collaboration.

▪ Observe and support compliance, administrative, and program procedures.

▪ Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and initiative in completing assigned learning activities.

 

Administrative Tasks:

▪ Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.

▪ Perform program recordkeeping and filing and organize vital documents.

▪ Provide telephone coverage for the assigned program and direct calls to other programs as needed.

▪ Participate in required supervisions, staff meetings and trainings.

▪ Participate and cooperate in any investigations conducted by internal and external agencies.

▪ Ability to use a computer including inputting information into the electronic health record.

 

Compliance Requirements:

▪ Remain awake during your shift at all times.

▪ Attend all mandatory trainings and update all licenses and certifications.

▪ Adhere to program/project/department requirements and services.

▪ Comply with the established protocol for medication management.

▪ Follow all reporting guidelines by deadlines including the completion of a Confidential Incident Report.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Intern must perform each essential function satisfactorily. ▪ Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Substance Use Counseling, or a related field.

▪ Interest in substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment.

▪ Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

▪ Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

▪ Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
