New England School of Best Practices in Addiction Treatment

Are you interested in developing or enhancing the skills necessary to advance to new roles in your career?

 

For the third year, the New England Institute of Addiction Studies and the New England ATTC have partnered to create a management certificate program for managers and emerging managers in the addiction field. Being a good counselor alone does not prepare a professional to take the next step to running an addiction prevention, treatment or recovery focused program. To meet this clear need, NEIAS and the NE-ATTC have developed a track at Best Practices and another at the June Summer School that, when taken together, advance a professional’s management abilities and provide a professional certification.



For those interested in working toward specialty certification credentials:

• Clinical Supervision, (2-day class on site, with virtual pre- and post-event coursework offers the 30 hours needed to pursue certification
• Department Of Transportation /Substance Abuse Professional Qualification / Requalification, with exam available on site;
• For the first time, we are pleased to offer a two-day “Basic Skills for Working with Smokers”. Completing the “Basic Skills” workshop will allow practitioners who wish to advance to the Core Competency Training to be offered in the region in the fall. Upon completion of both of these trainings, participants may apply for Certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist through UMass, School of Medicine, Center for Tobacco Treatment Research & Training.
• A special “Training of Trainers” course, developed in cooperation with the New England Addiction Technology Transfer Center, will be offered for trainers or aspiring trainers for the regional behavioral healthcare workforce. After the on site day-long training, a Trainer Learning Collaborative will meet via videoconference or conference call  each quarter.

In addition, a wide variety of clinical courses has been planned to address identified regional programming needs, evidence – based practices, primary healthcare integration, and behavioral healthcare integration. Highlights include:

• Mindfulness – Based Stress Reduction and Co-Occurring Disorders
• Neurobiology of Addiction
• The Role of Treatment in the Recovery Process
• Integrated Change Therapy: Brief Treatment for Adults with
• Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorders Assessment and Treatment Planning
• ASAM Criteria Updates
• DSM Updates
• Criminal Justice coursework
• Trauma Informed Services
• Coursework for families affected by substance use
• Advanced Ethics
• A few special plenary sessions will include:
• “A Discussion on Opiate Overdose Prevention: Saving Lives with Naloxone”, a forum which will also be livestreamed to an online audience, and is co-sponsored by the New England Addiction Technology Transfer Center and the New Hampshire Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors Association
• “Hepatitic C Update Panel and Screening of ‘The Fix’ Documentary”. In addition to this documentary about hope, recovery, and peer HCV education in a methadone clinic, the panelists will provide information about the highly effective new Hepatitis C treatment

The overall daily schedule is:

• 7:00 am Breakfast
• 8:00 am - 3:30 pm Classes (on Monday, classes end later at 5:15pm) 
• On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, there are plenary sessions 7:15 pm - 8:45 pm.
