This 3-hour training is aimed at direct-care staff, mid- to advanced level experienced clinicians and administrators to improve their skills in working with children and adolescents by defining, exploring and enhancing their knowledge of professional ethic and boundaries.
The core content of the training involves defining professional boundaries, ethics, and ethical congruence. Participants will be taught how effective boundaries in the workplace are critical to an effective, sustainable career; how to celebrate your contributions and minimize staff/team splitting; understanding boundary red flags and violations; avoiding staff burnout; maintaining one’s physical and emotional safety and well-being, and how to create effective helping relationships to support client growth and understanding.
Participants will enhance their skills via group discussions and case scenarios to assess their understanding of ethically challenging situations, and make appropriate choices based on healthy helping relationships (i.e. keeping the best interests of the client first) as well as avoiding boundary violations (i.e. not following agency policies).
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to
Educate participants about the need to practice with clients with sound clinical boundaries and
Develop an enhanced understanding of the necessity for adolescents to receive services that are structured and predictable, as poor boundaries impact their cognitive, social and behavioral functioning.
Provide the audience with multiple learning experiences to explore the complexity of ethical decision-making
Assist staff in identifying and utilizing the concept of “ethical congruence” so that there is a shared approach with clients concerning staff’s ability to be consistent role models.
Assess and explore participants’ abilities and thoughts when presented with boundary scenarios and to nurture discussions on how to approach each situation.
