Description:

Participants in this workshop will experience activities and have the chance to practice leading activities which support the Active Client Engagement (ACE) methodology & pedagogy. The day will be activity after activity for small and large groups followed by discussion on applying the activities to different ages & client bases, increasing & decreasing challenge depending on needs, and etc. We will also spend approximately 1 hour of time crafting new activities which can be used in 1 on 1 settings.

Discussion and introduction to ACE, why it is important, and about moving from control to empowerment will have been discussed in depth in the ACE workshop and will not be the primary focus of ACE – The Activities. It is recommended that participants in ACE – The Activities will have already taken the ACE workshop.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to

  • Develop new or enhance existing knowledge of ways to actively involve clients/students in their cognitive development and social and emotional learning.
  • Engage in peer and leader-driven dialog to discover ways to apply activities to diverse groups and settings.
  • Self and peer evaluate the delivery of participant-led activities from the perspective of empowering clients/students and intentionally leaving behind the desire to control a space.
  • Analyze the physical, emotional, and cognitive response to the activity(ies) being experienced by workshop participants and apply our process within the workshop to the spaces participants will be returning to when working with their own clients/students.
