Youth Substance Use 101

Event description

No

The Institute for Health and Recovery (IHR) will be leading a series of regional trainings in October, November and December.  These trainings are open to DPH, Bureau of Substance Addiction providers as well as other youth serving agencies and departments.

Description:

This training provides an overview of the disease model of addiction with a focus on substance use disorders as a pediatric or development affliction. As such, it includes a discussion of why youth and young adults are particularly at risk and briefly reviews best practices for screening and engagement. The training includes an examination of the role of co-occurring mental health disorders and trauma in youth substance use. Finally, it presents a demographic and clinical picture of youth receiving treatment in the continuum of care funded by the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) as well as a brief description of the programs, services, and levels of care in that system. Wherever possible, providers from the continuum of care are invited to attend and give a fuller description of the services they provide.
