Training Description:

This training focuses on using trauma-informed principles within the milieu or work setting, to enhance safe interactions with clients and effectively support clients exhibiting escalation behaviors.

Participants will focus on using empathy for clients suffering from trauma and/or are simply struggling emotionally, introspective use of self, using a relational model and learning to help "co-regulate" clients, safety perimeters, and non-violent intervention strategies.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Help participants to identify what happens in the brain when one feels emotionally dysregulated and unable to access executive function skills
  • To help participants identify when someone is in distress, and use their relational de-escalation skills to support the client 
  • Participants will be able to manage their own emotional reactions to be able to be more responsive to the client’s immediate distress
  • For participants to assess when a client can utilize their problem-solving strategies 
  • Participants will have an array of approaches to help co-regulate a client in distress and to increase safety within the environment
