Event description

Yes

Training Description:

Most human service agencies serve clients who have experienced trauma. However, most front-line staff are not clinically trained to respond to the trauma experienced by clients, and are often left feeling helpless when clients share their experiences.

Through this training, participants will understand how trauma impacts the brain and body, how individuals and organizations can reshape services and policies to take into account the impact of trauma, and how bearing witness to trauma impacts service providers as well self-care strategies for coping. Participants will leave better equipped to provide services to those impacted by trauma.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify three lasting impacts of trauma on clients
  • Identify two factors that contribute to “post-traumatic growth”
  • Transform a deficit-based case note to a strengths-based case note
  • Explain three ways that hearing about clients’ experiences impacts them
  • Identify to a colleague two signs of burn-out
  • Create a realistic self-care plan
