Description: 

This training focuses on ways to engage and support family members caring for youth and young adults with substance use disorders. Topics covered include: understanding parental challenges, reframing addiction as a chronic family disease, and identifying family recovery resources at the local, state, and national levels.

This training is aimed towards anyone working with youth and young adults; prior knowledge is not required.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to...

  • To understand how addiction and recovery can impact the family system.
  • To identify the various challenges faced by parents/caregivers of youth with substance use disorders
  • To identify best practices for engaging and supporting family members caring for youth in recovery, including the CRAFT model.
  • To understand the roots of multi-generational substance use, and how to help break this cycle of addiction by supporting parents/caregivers in their own recovery and offering support for youth impacted by parental substance use
  • To identify family recovery resources at the local, state, and national levels, for youth and parents/caregivers.
