Training Description:

Participants will learn about the school to prison pipeline and its operation in Massachusetts. 

This will include an overview of how school discipline policies and school based arrests drive students from the classroom into the juvenile and criminal justice system, the disproportionate impact that the pipeline has on students of color and students with disabilities and learn advocacy steps that can be taken to disrupt it.

Objectives: Participants will be able to...

  • Will learn the definition of the school to prison pipeline and its roots
  • Will gain knowledge of data showing the impact of the pipeline on students
  • Will gain knowledge of data showing the racial disparity impact on students of color in Massachusetts
  • Will gain knowledge of data showing the impact of the pipeline on students with disabilities
  • Will gain knowledge of current efforts to address and dismantle the school to prison pipeline, including legislation currently before the Massachusetts Legislature
  • Will gain knowledge of action steps that can be taken in their respective role to address and dismantle the school to prison pipeline
