Desciption: The perinatal period is a rich time to engage with women about their substance use, yet approaches must be sensitive to the circumstances of each woman’s life in order to effectively engage her in change. This training will review an array of commonly misused drugs and impact on perinatal health, present trauma-informed approaches for change, and introduce new resources for those of reproductive age.

Learner Outcomes/ Behavioral Objectives:

  • Participants will gain more understanding as to the reasoning pregnant woman use substances
  • Participants will learn the possible effect of drugs on maternal/fetal/neonatal/child health
  • Participants will learn different approaches for hope for mothers, children, and public health
  • Participants will walk away with new resources to use and learn from
