Training Description: For Providers and other Stakeholders, DCF can be a complicated system to understand. This training will provide an introduction to some of the laws, policies and procedures that guide the work of child welfare, including:

  • Mandated Reporter obligations
  • What happens to a 51A after its filed
  • Timeframes and procedures during the DCF family Assessment
  • Timeframes and procedures related to court proceedings when children are not in their parents’ custody
  • Child-Family Visitation
  • Collaboration with Providers, particularly as it relates to substance use

Learning Objectives:

By the completion of this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand how a 51A moves through the Intake process during DCF Screening and Response
  • Understand policies and procedures related to the 60-day DCF Assessment.
  • Recognize the DCF legal and policy obligations related to permanency of children not in the custody of their parents
  • Understand the considerations related to child-family visits 
  • Have an increased awareness of the importance of collaboration
