Supervision in the Helping Professions - for Supervisees and Supervisors

Supervision is understood to be related to both professional development and better client/patient care outcomes. This training will provide participants with the opportunity to assess whether their use of supervision is consistent, seen as meaningful, and how it may be enhanced. Specific areas to be addressed include:

  • Exploring differences between clinical supervision and administrative supervision.
  • Identifying the most and the least useful elements of supervision.
  • Developing goals and a framework to facilitate productive supervision sessions,
  • whether in a supervisee or supervisor position.
  • Engaging supervision as a primary support to benefit the ability to help others,
  • and to maximize learning and professional development.

Presenting will be Steven Chisholm, MA, Professor and Coordinator of Drug and Alcohol Programs at North Shore Community College. Prior to teaching full-time, Mr. Chisholm was employed for twenty years at a large multi-site addiction treatment agency where he held many counseling, clinical supervisory, and leadership positions.  His roles included oversight of the agency’s quality management department, clinical record reviews, research, and training across their continuum. In addition to offering various addiction & prevention training programs across New England, he also conducts local Recovery Coach Training.

  • Social Work, Nursing, LADC, and EMS continuing education credits being pursued.
  • Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) continuing education credits are approved by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
