Description:
This 3-hour training is designed for beginning to mid-level experienced clinicians as well as direct care staff and administrators to raise their awareness to the benefits of understanding the impact of compassion fatigue on human service workers, and how creating space to practice consistent, daily self-care will lead to a prolonged, fruitful career helping others. The core content includes defining Compassion Fatigue and its subsets (Secondary and Vicarious Trauma as well as burnout), identifying staff symptoms of Compassion Fatigue, the benefits of deep breathing and defining mindfulness, an introduction to Lisa Najavits’ Grounding exercises (adapted from “Seeking Safety”), how to begin one’s self-care practices, the tenets of Compassion Satisfaction and Resiliency, and discussion and activities to develop helpful self-care practices.
