DESCRIPTION:
This will be a full-day training. Through use of case studies and didactic methods, participants will receive a basic comprehension of the child welfare lens and how the Department of Children and Families works. Topics to be covered will include: Mandated Reporter 51-A training, Substance Use Disorders and Child Welfare, Case Presentations: Samples for Community Providers, Protective Factors, and Confidentiality, Communication, and Collaboration. Topics covered will assist those with a beginner to moderate level of expertise regarding prior experience working with DCF.
OBJECTIVES:
Consideration should be given to what Domain of Learning is involved in the event.
The Domains of Learning are:
- Cognitive Domain – (knowledge) the event is intended to transfer knowledge to the attendees
- Psychomotor Domain – (skills) the event is intended to teach news “hands-on” skills
- Affective Domain – (feelings and attitudes) the event is intended to change attendee beliefs and attitudes As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
The Domains of Learning are included here because we feel that it is extremely important to decide and communicate what exact type of learning is being proposed: New skills, new attitudes, or new knowledge. Educational methods will obviously vary depending on which Domain is primary to the educational activity.
As a result of this training, participants will be able to: Identify how parental substance misuse decreases capacity to parent, resulting in abuse and neglect. Participants will better understand the DCF system and how 51A/B process unfolds.
