The Role of Wellness & Nutrition in Substance Abuse Treatment

This one day workshop will incorporate overviews that will be delivered by presenter via PowerPoint, will include some interactive elements to the presentation and will also draw on the experience of program staff that will share their lived experience as it relates to this topic. This presentation assumes that the attendees will have good knowledge of substance use disorders and are actively working in the field



Objectives: Those completing the training will gain knowledge of:

• The increased physical and mental health risk factors for those with substance use disorders.
• The elements of wellness shown to have a positive impact on mental health.
• The evidence on nutrition and the impact on mental health and substance use disorders.
• Recent research on what residential alcohol and drug treatment programs in Massachusetts are doing to address wellness and nutrition.
• Strategies to incorporate wellness and nutrition into treatment.
