Intended Learning Outcomes:  to learn the details behind Integrated Primary Care culture, and how to leverage integration into achieving a full-fledged Patient-Centered Medical Home.

Format: This one day, live online workshop consists is offered twice yearly in September and February; it is given in concert with the first day of the Center's "Certificate Course in Primary Care Behavioral Health" the live format allows real-time interaction between moderator/presenters and participants.

Faculty:  This mini-course is taught by Dr. Alexander Blount, EdD a pioneer in the field of behavioral health integration, an active teacher, writer and consultant. Dr. Blount is joined by Ronald Adler, MD who has practised alongside Dr. Blount in one of UMass Memorial's Primary Care health centers.  Their partnership and shared experiences inform the discussion of integration in a way participants find engaging and effective.

Background: Health care transformation is a team effort.  Integrated Primary Care (IPC) is best thought of as an expansion and enriching of Primary Care rather than as a changing of venue for mental health or substance abuse services. In order to deliver better outcomes to more patients while controlling costs, primary care will look and operate much differently in the future.  The integration of behavioral health services is mandated by the NCQA 2014 standards for the Patient Centered Medical Home, promoted by forward-looking health plans, and encouraged by HRSA, SAMHSA and numerous state health and mental health authorities.
