Description:
Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) is a research-validated substance abuse prevention program proven to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse, and violence. This comprehensive and exciting program provides young people with the confidence and skills necessary to successfully handle challenging situations. LST Level 1 consists of a series of Sessions in the 6th or 7th grade. It can be implemented by adults who attend this one-day Certification Training. The training, curriculum and student guides are offered at no charge by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Objectives:
Upon Completion of this training, the participants will (be able to):
- Identify at least 2 developmental issues that may influence youth to consider using substances.
- Describe what is needed to implement Middle School Substance Abuse Prevention Life Skills Training faithfully, and who to turn to for questions.
- Delineate 1 way to integrate active facilitation and feedback techniques into their program implementation to increase youth engagement.
- Describe 1 method they can use to implement the teaching skills of coaching, and behavioral rehearsal.
