Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) is a research-validated substance abuse prevention program proven to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug misuse, and violence. LST ELEMENTARY Level 1 consists of a series of Sessions in the 3rd and 4th grades. It can be implemented by adults who attend this one-day Certification Training. The training, curriculum and student guides are offered at no charge by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. This comprehensive and exciting program provides young people with the confidence and skills necessary to successfully handle challenging situations. 



Objectives:

​Upon Completion of this training, the participants will (be able to):

  • Identify at least 2 developmental issues that may influence youth to consider using alcohol or misusing prescription or other drugs.
  • Describe what is needed to implement Elementary School Substance Abuse Prevention Life Skills Training faithfully, and who to turn to for questions.
  • Delineate 1 way to integrate active facilitation and feedback techniques into program implementation to increase youth engagement.
  • Describe 1 method they can use to implement the teaching skills of coaching, and behavioral rehearsal.

**Although not required, teams from schools/districts are encouraged to attend**
