Root cause analysis is the process of identifying the root causes or contributing factors of a problem. Using this information can increase the efficiency of care provided to patients.This one day training will inform participants about what a root cause analysis is, how to conduct one, and how the process can benefit your organization. This workshop will allow participants to use case examples to conduct mock root cause analysis during the day.  Participants will explore the thinking behind root cause analysis and leave the workshop with resources and knowledge about how to use this process in their own work site.

Objectives: 

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define root cause analysis and explain how it is used in health care settings.
  • Identify the steps needed to conduct a root cause analysis.
  • Practice and use root cause analysis individually and in a group setting.
  • Educate others at their workplace and use this tool for performance improvement activities.
