Engagement Skills & Building a Rapport with "Hard to Reach" Clients

Event description

Description:

This workshop will highlight engagement skills necessary to build a positive rapport with individuals ambivalent about substance abuse treatment and recovery from the first visit to graduation. The Engagement Model presented is client-driven, anticipatory, and culturally sensitive. It will also include advocacy that may be crucial for family members in accessing appropriate health, mental health and substance use treatment and recovery services. The presenter will offer strategies and lessons learned through 22 years of clinical experience, and 15 years of program development and management. The model to be presented is rooted in the Evidence-Informed and Evidence-Based Practices of Relational-Cultural Theory and Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and relies heavily on using trauma-informed, strengths-based Motivational Interviewing (MI) for engagement.
