Event description

Yes

Description: This introductory half-day workshop is designed for substance use treatment providers, with little knowledge about e-cigarettes, to help them sort out myths and facts about e-cigarettes and learn how to provide guidance to clients about using these products and health and safety concerns. Additionally, clinical supervisors can use the information to help staff talk with clients about e-cigarette use.

We will describe and review e-cigarettes and the range of electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) products available, including JUULs which are being used widely among high schools students across the nation. We will describe how these products work, what is in them and the health impact of using ENDS products. We will sort out the latest research, separate myths from facts, and review the implications of use for youth, adults and individuals in treatment for substance use disorders. Participants will practice using a motivational interviewing approach to address the issue of e-cigarette use with clients.

Objectives:

Upon completing this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define and describe electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) products and their use.
